The Nike Air Max Plus TN Triple White trainer adds a subtle spin to the usual loud colourways we associate with the late 90s AM sneaker.
The Nike Air Max Plus, or TN as it often referred to, has enjoyed a massive resurgence thanks to its recent re-release back in late 2018. The TN originally gained a cult following on the streets of Europe from London to Lille throughout the late 90s and early noughties, usually worn with tracksuit pants, baseball caps and other colourful sportswear from the era. The TN was also a big thing in Australia in major cities like Sydney & Melbourne, just like the popularity ‘down under’ of the Air Max Tailwind series before it. For September 2020 we are now treated to the new Nike Air Max Plus TN Triple White trainer which goes against the usual ‘in your face’ colourways associated with the late 90s Air Max sneaker from Sean McDowell.
Originally designed by Sean McDowell, the Nike Air Max Plus TN trainer drew inspiration from the sunny beaches of Florida with waves and blowing palm trees incorporated into the design of the TPU caged uppers. The TN was first introduced in 1998 as an innovative running trainer whilst also re-working the Air Max sole technology with the introduction of Tuned Air for the greatest underfoot cushioning that was possible at the time. McDowell also introduced the famous hexagonal TN logo for the first time whilst also adding extra reflective detailing to the design for night time runners. Original colourways of the TN included the likes of sunset & hyper-blue which were super vibrant.
For September 2020 the OG Air Max Plus TN silhouette is now treated to a triple white update in stark contrast to the OG colourways of the late 90s release. Past triple white iterations of other OG Air Max silhouettes such as the Air Max 1, the Air Max 95 & the Air Max 97 have become sought after styles on the sneaker resale resale market. This latest triple white iteration of the Air Max Plus TN features synthetic & mesh uppers in white alongside the signature TPU ‘cage’ overlays. Other highlights include the iconic Tuned Air sole unit, swooshes and original TN branding to the heel.
